IELTS preparation runs in groups of no more than four students or one-to-one, online or at our centre in Baku (159 Aliyar Aliyev Street). Groups have three one-hour lessons a week, followed by extra speaking and practice sessions. Lessons run between 09:00 and 21:00: in-person lessons start no later than 19:00, online lessons no later than 20:00.
Our teachers are internationally certified professionals. You start with a free placement test (at our centre or on our online platform) and a free trial lesson; duration and programme are confirmed after you meet your teacher. Preparation usually takes about three months, depending on your starting level. There is a mock exam every month, and parents can follow attendance and progress on our own online platform. If you don't reach your target score, lessons continue free of charge; your consultant explains the exact terms. EDDE Academy is a British Council member, and 75% of our IELTS students score 7.0 or higher.

The exam takes about 2 hours 45 minutes. Listening, Reading and Writing are taken on the same day without breaks; Speaking is a face-to-face interview on the same day or another day. Listening and Speaking are identical for Academic and General Training; Reading and Writing differ.
| Section | Time | Tasks | What we work on in the course |
|---|---|---|---|
| Listening | ≈ 30 min (+ transfer time) | 4 parts, 40 questions | Predicting key words, synonym and number traps, copying answers without spelling errors |
| Reading | 60 min | 3 passages, 40 questions | Skimming and scanning, True/False/Not Given logic, time management, vocabulary |
| Writing | 60 min | Task 1 (150+ words), Task 2 (250+ words) | Essay structure, building an argument, charts and letter format in Task 1, feedback against the marking criteria |
| Speaking | 11–14 min | 3 parts, face to face with an examiner | Fluent answers in the extra speaking sessions, the 2-minute talk in Part 2, pronunciation and vocabulary |
In Writing, Task 2 carries twice the weight of Task 1. Writing and Speaking are marked on four criteria: task achievement, coherence and cohesion, vocabulary, grammar; Speaking also includes pronunciation.
Choose a band for each of the four sections. The overall band is the mean of the four, rounded by the official rule: .25 rounds up to .5, .75 rounds up to the next whole band, anything else rounds down.
